Medical Term for the Type of Cancer: squamous cell carcinoma of the anus
Anal Cancer Symptoms: Chronological order: Blood-tinged drainage for months, then heavy bleeding with BMs-which I "hoped", for months, would go away. A hard skin tag, change in stool appearance, increased difficulty defecating. PAIN!
Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects: 02/17/11: Anal fissurectomy with lateral sphincterotomy. Only SE was pain. Now, I can poo w/o pain for the first time in MONTHS. It still looks weird (TMI.) This found the CA. 07/03/12--anal/rectal biopsy of suspicious tissue found during a DRE. Thankfully, it was only scar tissue.--I hurt like hell for 3 wks after though!! :/
Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects: Mitomycin and f5u-begin 4/12/11. . . . I was EXTREMELY tired and became EXTREMELY short-of-breath (ended up with bronchitis, but I have asthma.) One of the meds, Mytomycin, I think, can adversely affect the lungs. My thyroid got messed up so I now take meds. Nodules on lungs, on CT . . . monitoring those.

Anal Cancer Symptoms: Rectal bleeding, itching, sciatic pain. (thought my hemorhoid was acting up)
Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects: Laminectomy and tumor removal of the metestatic sacral tumor. This was done microscopically (with a small spoon). Nov 2012 Wedge resection right lower lobe via thoracotomy.
Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects: 2 rounds, 96 hours each week 1 and week 5 during radiation of 5-FU. Mytomycin-C first round only. Hairloss, nausea, vomiting, 30 pounds of weight loss. Recurrence 2013- 4 rounds of Cisplatin with 46 hours of 5-FU with each round.

Colon and Rectal Cancer Symptoms: Rectal bleeding that my gynecologist said was “probably hemorrhoids,” lower back ache, occasional diarrhea.
Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects: Transanal resection, October 5th, 2009.
Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects: Xeloda (oral chemo) for two and a half weeks. I was supposed to have it for five weeks, but my platelet counts wouldn't stay up. I was diagnosed with Chronic ITP (an auto-immune platelet disease) shortly after I finished treatment.

Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects: 2/3/14 - 3/10/14 : 6 weekly Cisplatin doses @ 30mg/m^2 Side Effects - Ringing in ears (went from minor to moderate). Constipation. General "bad" feeling...like having a cold without the symptoms. Overall I think I did ok with the chemo though.

Larynx Cancer Symptoms: Dysphonia, plus on & off sore throat
Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects: **Total Laryngectomy: May 15, 2014 Currently use an indwelling prosthetic larynx; and relying on my electrolarynx, especially when fatigued. **Emergency Ileostomy due to bowel perforation: March 9, 2016
Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects: 12 total Erbitux sessions, once weekly, January 13 - March 31, 2011. Increasing fatigue and, ironically, insomnia following each session. From mid February through the end of treatments, somehow the Radiation/Erbitux mix seemed to spawn clusters of migraines.

Try hard to find things that taste okay so you can maintain your weight and swallowing during radiation to head and neck.

If you are religious - focus on your family and pray and remember God is always with you. If not religious - focus on your family and getting through it so you can continue to be in their lives.

Fullness in right ear, sinus headaches, tingling and numbness in upper right lip and cheek area near the nose, right side of tongue and right side of roof of mouth sensitive to salty and acidic foods

Started radiation on 11/4/13 after 6 weeks on induction chemo

Started cetuximab on 9/5/13 along with induction chemo as part of a clinical trial - skin rash on face, chest, back, and lower legs similar to acne (very painful), swollen lymph nodes which caused pain in the neck and back of head, severe itching, cracked corners of mouth that were extremely painful.
